CHAPLAINCY – What is it?
Since the first Chaplain was introduced in a Queensland
State school in 1989, Chaplaincy has grown to be a frontline initiative
in helping students in over 180 schools across Queensland. Chaplaincy
complements existing school support & care programs by specifically
addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of all members of the school
community.
Chaplains provide pastoral care, help 'students at
risk', run camps & activity programs, coach sporting teams and co-ordinate
the schools Religious Education (RE) program. The crucial aim of a Chaplain
is to provide a personal point of contact and care for all students,
teachers, staff and their families within their school.
Chaplaincy at Musgrave Hill
As the Chaplain at Musgrave Hill I work throughout
the school campus to be a part of whatever is happening in the life
of the school. Some of the activities I'm involved in are:
• coaching sporting teams
• coordinating and running Social Skills programs
• lunchtime walkthroughs, chatting to the kids
• attending school camps and excursions
• talking with kids and their families in a pastoral care role
• running a fun lunch program called S.U.P.A. Club
• mixing it up with the kids out on the sports field
• attend and participate in special school events (eg. Discos,
concerts, etc…)
Some of the other programs I am involved with or coordinate are…
  Rock
and Water
All the activities I am involved with from day to day help me to get
to know the children in the school and for them to get to know me. It
is in this environment of trust and friendship that I am able to best
help those in the school community who may need assistance.
